The ZF 8HP has proven itself, for more than a decade, that it is among the best transmissions ever produced. The first models of the 8HP, and subsequent models, have all pushed the limits of transmission efficiency. As ZF continues to improve the 8HP, adding a Plug-In Hybrid version of the transmission was the next logical step. Become familiar with the latest technology as we cover hybrid transmission basics, torque flow, basic high voltage concepts and a hands-on disassembly of the 8P75H transmission and mechatronic.
After completing this training, the participant will be able to:
-
Describe the different levels of hybrid technology
-
Identify the types of ZF hybrid transmissions
-
Define the classification of a high voltage system
-
Identify the internal safety features of hybrid systems
-
Explain how to verify zero potential of a high voltage system
-
Describe procedure to disconnect high voltage systems on BMW and Audi
-
Identify the characteristics of 2 speed electric motors
-
Explain how to disassemble a ZF 8P75 transmission
-
Describe the disassembly process of the 875H mechatronic
-
Identify updates within the latest ZF transmissions
-
Explain common failures of the units
-
Describe common diagnostics of the ZF hybrid units
ZF 8HP Transmission Diagnostics and Overhaul (In-Person)(KENNESAW, GA)
with Francisco Moreno
ZF 8HP Transmission Diagnostics and Overhaul
LOCATION: SSF Training Center 4105 Royal Drive (Suite #600) Kennesaw, GA 30144
TIME: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
***Attendees may not be accepted if course reaches capacity. Refunds will be issued for courses that are canceled due to low enrollment. (Travel reimbursements are excluded)
As more and more vehicle manufacturers choose ZF for their transmissions, shops can benefit and even potentially add simple services to their offerings by understanding the basics of the ZF 8HP transmission and how to diagnose common problems encountered in the repair shop and complaints from customers. This in-depth class will take a deep dive into the function of the ZF 8HP transmission, and the best overhaul practices. The class will feature a classroom session, then participants will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned on a ZF 8HP transmission under the supervision of a ZF technical trainer.
After completing this training, the participant will be able to:
- List internal components
- Explain the torque flow through the gears
- Describe the shift strategy
- Identify common failures
- Explain the oil change procedure
- Explain how to properly check the oil level
- Identify the differences between pressure regulators and solenoids
- Analyze transmission adaptation values and relearn procedures
- Review the disassembly and assembly process of the transmission
- Identify special tools needed for the disassembly and assembly process

ZF 6HP Transmission Diagnostics and Overhaul
LOCATION: TBD
TIME: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
***Attendees may not be accepted if course reaches capacity. Refunds will be issued for courses that are canceled due to low enrollment. (Travel reimbursements are excluded)
When it was originally released, the ZF 6HP marked the next generation of transmission technology and was a major step ahead in transmission design and engineering over previous transmissions. As transmission technology continues to evolve, as it did in the case of the ZF 6HP, the diagnostic process must also evolve. During this in-depth training, diagnostic procedures will be covered that will take the guesswork out of the diagnostic and repair process and will add valuable skills that translate well to repair facilities. During this in-depth hands on training the participant will completely disassembled and assemble a ZF 6HP transmission.
After completing this training, the participant will be able to:
- List internal components of the 6HP transmission
- Describe differences between pressure regulators and solenoids
- Identify the different characteristics of pressure regulators
- Differentiate between mechatronic types
- Explain the shifting strategy of the ZF 6HP
- Explain an oil change service procedure
- Analyze transmission adaptation values
- Use adaptation values to assist in the diagnostic procedure
- List internal components of the 6HP transmission
- Describe differences between pressure regulators and solenoids
- Identify the different characteristics of pressure regulators Explain proper disassembly/Assembly process
- Explain common internal failures
- Analyze common internal failures
