Building transmissions and gear drive systems is at the heart of what ZF does, and throughout its history, ZF has been at the forefront of pushing transmission technology forward. With these technological and engineering advancements, staying up to date on the latest diagnostic and overhaul procedures is critical.
During this training, participants can expect to learn procedures that will aid them with not only understanding how ZF 6HP and 8HP transmissions operate, but with diagnosing and repairing these transmissions in a real-world environment. Additionally, this training gives participants the chance to apply the knowledge that they have gained in the classroom setting to a ZF transmission, under the guidance of a ZF Technical Trainer.
After completing this training, the participant will be able to:
• List internal components of the 6HP and 8HP transmissions
• Describe differences between pressure regulators and solenoids
• Identify the different characteristics of pressure regulators
• Differentiate between mechatronic types
• Explain the shifting strategy of the ZF 6HP and 8HP transmissions
• Explain an oil change service procedure
• Analyze transmission adaptation values
• Explain adaptation values to assist in the diagnostic procedure
• Identify the most common failures of the ZF 6HP and 8HP transmissions
• Identify the torque flow of all gears
• Review the disassembly and assembly process of the 6HP and 8HP transmissions
• Review the disassembly and assembly process of ZF mechatronics

As engineers have sought to make front wheel drive transaxles more efficient, they have used new concepts to help them reach the goals that have been set for more efficient drivelines and more forward gears. During this training, participants will first take a detailed look at the ZF 9HP to gain an understanding for how it is designed, and then take a deep dive into diagnostics. Participants will leave this training able to more effectively diagnose and repair ZF 9HP transaxles.
After completing this training, the participant will be able to:
• List internal components of the 9HP transmission
• Identify the torque flow of all gears
• Describe differences between pressure regulators and solenoids
• Identify the different characteristics of pressure regulators
• Differentiate between valve body types
• Explain the shifting strategy of the ZF 9HP
• Analyze transmission adaptation values and quick learn procedure
• Explain an oil change service procedure for different manufacturers
• Explain how to properly check the oil in the transmission
• Describe the common failures of the ZF 9HP
• Review the disassembly and assembly process of the transmission
• Identify special tools needed for disassembly and assembly of the unit

The ZF 8HP has proven itself, for more than a decade, that it is among the best transmissions ever produced. The first models of the 8HP, and subsequent models, have all pushed the limits of transmission efficiency. As ZF continues to improve the 8HP, adding a Plug-In Hybrid version of the transmission was the next logical step. Become familiar with the latest technology as we cover hybrid transmission basics, torque flow, basic high voltage concepts and a hands-on disassembly of the 8P75H transmission and mechatronic. After completing this training, the participant will be able to:
• Describe the different levels of hybrid technology
• Identify the types of ZF hybrid transmissions • Define the classification of a high voltage system
• Identify the internal safety features of hybrid systems
• Explain how to verify zero potential of a high voltage system
• Describe procedure to disconnect high voltage systems on BMW and Audi
• Identify the characteristics of 2 speed electric motors
• Explain how to disassemble a ZF 8P75 transmission
• Describe the disassembly process of the 875H mechatronic
• Identify updates within the latest ZF transmissions
